Debbie and Kelly’s Best Apple Pie in the World
Ingredients:
- 1 and 1/4 cup sugar 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 tablespoon tapioca or corn starch
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 6 cups thinly sliced, pared, tart, cooking apples
- 6 tablespoons Torchbearer Sauces Mango-Papaya Sauce
- 1 and 1/2 tablespoons real butter
- 1/4 stick of soft Butter
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 easy pastry shells
Easy Pastry Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 3/4 cups shortening
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 425 F
- Combine Mango-Papaya Sauce, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and salt; mix well
- Add the apples; toss lightly
- Turn into pastry-lined Pie plate mounding in the center
- Dot with 1 and 1/2 tablespoon of butter. Top with crust
- Place 1 inch strips of foil on oie crust edge to prevent burning
- Spread the soft butter on crust, then make slits to vent
- Pour the milk around the top to coat the entire area, then sprinkle the sugar to match
- Bake 40-50 min. at 425 F
Directions for the Easy Pastry
- Combine flour, sugar and salt together
- Cut shortening into flour mixture and stir in water, egg, and vinegar.
- Separate into 4 balls and chill.
- Roll 2 balls out for each pie you want to make.
Suggestions:
You can also use a store bought pie shell for your apple pie. Enjoy with ice cream or topped with additional Mango-Papaya Sauce. Also try a variety of sweet and tart apples to make the filling
