An Apple a Day Done the TorchBearer Way

An Apple a Day Done the TorchBearer Way

Continuing our dive into fall food and sauce combinations, we thought it would be criminal not to look into what you can do with an apple or two. We've put together a few simple ideas you can create in your own kitchen that will have your family trying to figure out when you had time to get that culinary degree AND put in your 60 hours a week at your job deep in the mines. Even if you don't work in the mines, they may still be impressed with you after trying...

3 Great Apple Hot Sauce Pairing Ideas

Let's get started and show Johnny Appleseed his efforts weren't in vain.

1) Green Apple Curry

This one is so simple and sounds so odd that we couldn't resist! Simply take two or three granny smith apples (the more tart the better), core 'em, and dice 'em up. In a small sauce pan heat up about 3/4 cup of our Psycho Curry sauce until it simmers. Throw the apples in the sauce along with a pinch of salt, 1 to 1 and 1/2 cups of water, and stir in a tbsp of brown sugar. Let this mixture boil then simmer uncovered for around 30 minutes. You may have to add a little water if things get too thick, but that's up to you.

Now you've got yourself a sweet and savory curried apple dish that's a great dip for bread or tossed over some rice. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes! We are huge fans of this combination... add it to the list of your sweet and spicy recipes.

2) Spicy Apple Chicken Salad

You've got your down-home savory chicken salads with mayo, celery, onion, maybe a little mustard, and they are tasty and filling. Nothing wrong with that. But have you ever added some apples and dried cranberries into the mix? It's so easy to take your standard chicken salad recipe to the next level, you'll be wondering why you hadn't done it years ago.

Take a diced up apple or two and a handful of craisins and toss them with your favorite chicken salad ingredients. We like rotisserie chicken, celery, diced green onion, and a touch of dijon mustard. Now take some mayo and add your favorite TorchBearer hot sauce. Typically, we find the milder, sweeter ones work the best so, if you can't decide, try Sweet Onion Habanero, Cranberry Jalapeno, or for something with a bit more bite, Shinedown's Attention Attention. Mix everything together, let it sit for a little in the fridge to give all the flavors time to mingle, and serve on a bun or over a fresh salad.

This stuff's so good you'll have to hire a personal security guard to keep an eye on your lunch at work.

3) Apple Chips with a Kick

We love a snack just as much as the next guy and if you've seen a few of us lately, it's pretty apparent that we like them WAY MORE than the next guy...  In any case, here's a snack no one needs to feel guilty about.

These apple chips, while they do take awhile, are incredibly easy. To begin, preheat your oven to 200 degrees. Core a few sweet apples (we suggest Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady) and slice them thinly. They should look like skinny little rings when finished. Next take our ever-versatile Dr. Lynch's Miracle Powder and mix in 1 to 2 tsp of cinnamon. Line a sheet pan or two with some parchment paper and evenly space out your rings. Sprinkle them with your spice mix and toss them in the oven for an hour.

Use this time to do something for yourself, like dye your hair purple or watch 1/8 of the movie Gettysburg (Why is that SO LONG??). Come back, flip the apples, sprinkle them again, and bake for another hour. Watch another portion of the movie or rearrange your closets. Believe it or not, you are going to want to flip those suckers one more time and put them back in for another hour. Go ahead and watch the first hour of a different movie because you are already sick of Gettysburg and your apples are ready! Let them cool and they are good to go.

They are so tasty, you'll soon forget the mind-numbing boredom you experienced. We probably shouldn't have recommended that movie to begin with...

Are You Enjoying These Fall Hot Sauce Ideas?

We hope we are contributing to a few fun evenings of new culinary adventures for you and your friends/family. It's always a good time when we can give you more ideas of ways to put these sauces we've spent so much time on to good use. As always, if you have things you like to do that you haven't seen us talk about or are just wacky and fun, feel free to share. You never know what we might try or where your recipe might end up (and we will always give you credit). Stay spicy, all, and enjoy these autumn days before winter inevitably kicks in and sends us into crock-pot mode. Don't worry, though, we've got ideas for that too.
